Evaluation of occupational health and safety perception of Gümüşhane gold mine employees

In our country and in the world, many employees are injured, disabled or even die due to occupational accidents and diseases in working environments. One of the sectors in which occupational accidents and diseases are seen the most is the mining sector. Mines contain many dangers and risks due to both structural features and working conditions. As in the world, the mining sector in Turkey is among the most dangerous working groups. In recent years, the importance and value given to occupational health and safety both in the mining sector and in other sectors has been increasing. While many measures are taken to prevent occupational accidents and diseases, the increase in the number of cases continues. In many studies in the literature, it is concluded that the most important factor causing occupational accidents is the human factor. In line with these results, the human factor should be examined in order to create a healthier and safer working environment, and it should be ensured that a safety climate and safety culture is created in employees. Employees' perception of OHS should be evaluated in order to create a safety climate and safety culture. In this study, the evaluation of the occupational health and safety perceptions of the Gold mine workers in Gümüşhane was discussed. Questions were asked to measure the occupational health and safety perceptions of 217 employees in the mine using the survey method. The data obtained were analyzed in the SPSS 21.0 statistical program. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the OHS perception of the employees was an average of 4.16 points out of 5 points. In addition, as a result of the analysis, statistically significant differences were determined between the demographic characteristics of the employees and the security climate scale dimensions in the questionnaire.
