A research on relationship of environmental health and disaster in Gümüşhane city

Environmental health, which is placed in subjects that waste, environmental pollution, housing health, water and food sanitation etc., is very important field about protection of the environmental balance and vital survival of the living. Similarly, disasters are the adverse events that can cause serious loss of life that can deeply affect human life. Because disasters and environmental health problems affect each other, so some of their subjects are placed in nested. Despite the increasing importance of disaster and environmental health in parallel with increasing environmental health problems, there is a very limited study in the literature. The aim of this study; in the event of a general or possible disaster, it was obtained information and opinion of Gumushane University Health Sciences Faculty students about environmental health and environmental health problems. In the study method, a survey was applied on 328 students in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Datas and the differences between the groups were evaluated by using Chi-square test, and Mean ± Standard deviation, statistically. In the results of this study; it was observed that the students of the Faculty of Health Sciences had mainly definition and subject about environmental health and they had general preliminary knowledge of environmental health in disasters. The correctness of the responses to the survey is generally; although there was no statistical difference in terms of age, sex and class groups (p>0.05), there was a statistically significant difference between departmants (p<0.05). For this reason; it is thought that the course content of students may be different from the course content during their education and training. As a result; it is believed that it may be helped reducing the negative effects of disasters and environmental health problems by applied education activity in to students in every branch about environmental health and the importance of environmental health's subjects in the case of disaster.
