Abstract (EN)
The transformation of weaving art into painting, performance, video art and installation art means that art has become a form of expression by going beyond traditional fabric weaving processes. This transformation often occurs when artists, in addition to using traditional weaving techniques, combine them with staging, demonstration or interactive performances. Tapestry weavings (woven painting) formed a form of representation of pictorial expressions in Europe until the 1920s, and developed with contemporary examples where experimental studies on color, material and texture were carried out in the Bauhaus weaving workshop. Jean Lurcat's works developed three-dimensional fiber art and transformed traditional techniques into conceptual works by reinterpreting them with different materials. At the Lausanne Tapestry Biennial under the leadership of Lurcat, weaving artists presented new forms and structures with abstract and original works. Tapestries created a new field of production in Turkey in the 70s under an international definition called fiber art. Many artists have existed through their works in contemporary tapestry art. Fırat Neziroğlu, one of today's artists, is a weaving artist who introduces himself in contemporary art by using traditional weaving techniques. In this study, the works of Fırat Neziroğlu, who used the weaving painting technique and managed to add new meanings to this technique worldwide, were discussed, in which he used weaving paintings, performances and other expression possibilities of contemporary art. Fırat Neziroğlu's works provide an important example representing the originality and power of the weaving painting technique. The main purpose of the thesis is to understand how Fırat Neziroğlu brings together artistic practices as well as his interaction with time, space and body, which are the basic elements of performance art.
