The Black Sea in the frame of contemporary international politics

The Black Sea region which has been a frontier during the bi-polar international system, was given little importence in foreign politics of regional and global actors comparing to its geopolitical and geoecenomic potential. The end of Cold War was a turning point in respects of ending the neglecting period of the region in international level and emerging of the region as a significant cultural an commercial center as it had been several times in history.In this new era, due to disappearance of the iron screen, many actors who gained their independence to follow politics in path of their national interest emerged in the region. This new era also has been a ground to the intensive political, economical, military and cultural relations of the region states with each other and international institutions.In this process The Black Sea region has been one of the most important isuues on international agenda in the wake of its geostrategical importance and has been a geopolitical battle ground among regional and non-regional powers. The future of the region in the forthcoming period will be formed depending on its natural dynamics in addition to th parameters here is that there is no power vacuum in the region, but a balance of power. This balance which is the consequence of the competition among the regional and non regional powers that took place for centuries, found its transcript form in Montreuw Convention. In this respect, Montreux Convention is not only a international convention determining the statute of the Turkish Straits and Black Sea, but also a symbol of th balance of power in the Black Sea region.With this comprehension in mind, it is believed that any action from the actors aiming to change the balance to get advantage in the Black Sea Region, will get other actors to involve in the situation in order to prevent emergence of a hegemonic power in the region and this kind of a development will be the Messenger of a bitter process in The Black Sea region.
