Abstract (EN)

The bicycle is a means of transportation where the connection between the user and the machine is converted into energy, which does not require anything to use other than the own energy of the user. The bicycle has been an inspiration for all other means of transportation and today, it is used quite commonly. Increasing bicycle variations due to social, societal, economic and technological changes from 1800s to date, have led to the development of special accessory designs that fit the vehicle's working dynamics in line with the desires and needs of individuals and societies. The bicycle, which is well suited for accessory use due to its diversity in the areas of use and its formal structure, has been playing a part in our lives as a daily life object from the late 19th century to the present day. Within the scope of this study, substantial research was carried out on how the bicycle is considered as a daily life object and what meaning it has in social, cultural, and economic structure; these meanings and the necessities of everyday life, and what kinds of accessories are needed on the bicycle and where people use these accessories. In the first chapter, the definition of the bicycle, what kinds of stages it has passed in the historical development process to play a role in everyday life, and the bicycle types to show forth the interaction of different types of bicycles especially in bicycle design in urban life have been addressed. The differences between the bicycle types are important as they influence the choice of accessories used in city bicycles. Recognizing the different types and structures of the bicycle lays the groundwork for us to understand the accessory designs used on them. In the second chapter, the infrastructure of the bicycle culture in the city; the social, economic, and individual reasons of this culture are examined, and as a result the present status of the bicycle in our life have been discussed. In daily use, the needs of the users were examined and design analysis were performed by providing examples from the accessories used in this context. In these accessory designs, on which forms the leather was predominantly used as a material was put forth. In the last chapter, the problems of the target audience were identified and their expectations were investigated in the direction of the researches and focus group studies that were carried out. With the collection of accessories designed in this direction, the designs providing practical and efficient solutions for the daily life of urban bicycle users were developed.
