Folklore of studying the charwomen

Women in Ankara which is the second large city of Turkey working in works of high income level are in need of charwomen who would help them in their housework therefore, this has caused such a work sector to become widespread. Recently this type of casual work has attracted attention over itself since, it is ensuring the women who have migrated from rural areas to urban areas and living in the cities currently to become adapted to urban life. In the sense of comparing two different cultural structures, it is important to determine in which degree charwoman migrated from rural to urban and brought along their traditional cultures, adapted into city culture, in which degree they changed their traditional characteristics, in which degree they came close to be town dweller. For this reason, examination of charwomen?s cultural journeys starting from their own to neighborhoods which they go for cleaning jobs, constructs the framework of this thesis. Has departed from data obtained from interviews carried out with fifty charwomen living in the shantytown of Ankara Mamak and the traditional / verbal and urban cultures of such women have been evaluated as based on such data. Preferences and attitudes of women having various different qualities, between traditional culture and urban culture on subjects such as, ways of marriage, in-family sharings, consumption habits, ways of making use of their leisure times have been examined.
