Abstract (EN)

Investigation of NGF (neural growth factor) and BDNF (brain - derived neurotrophic factor) in the urine of children with daytime lower urinary tract dysfunction Daily lower urinary tract dysfunction is a general term that covers a group of diseases in childhood which can lead to social and psychological problems for both families and child. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of sub-groups are difficult and objective markers that may help in the diagnosis are needed. Promising results published in the literature about BDNF and NGF as an indicator of daily lower urinary tract dysfunction sub-groups and values of them are investigated in this study. 43 children who present lower urinary tract symptoms and were diagnosed of lower urinary tract dysfunction and meet the study criteria, and 20 healthy children as a control group were included to the study. Sub- grouping was made with a variety of diagnostic procedures and tests in the study group. Creatinine, NGF and BDNF tests were studied in urine samples which taken from all of the cases, than patient characteristics and biochemical results were statistically compared with the control group. In study, patients were grouped as; extraordinary daytime frequency syndrome (n = 1), vaginal reflux ( n = 1), giggle incontinence (n = 2 ), primary bladder neck dysfunction (n = 2) , dysfunctional voiding (n = 7 ) , overactive bladder (n = 10), dysfunctional voiding + overactive bladder ( n = 10) , all patients (n = 43) and two groups of combining created with overactive bladder joint group ( n = 20 ), and their data were compared with control group ( n: 20). NGF/Cr value has been significantly higher for only overactive bladder joint group (n = 20) compared to the control group (n:20); but sensitivity and specificity of NGF/Cr were low (60%, 65%). BDNF/Cr value for all groups was significantly higher than the control group, also sensitivity and specificity of BDNF/Cr were significantly high in all groups. That highness may be due to the heterogeneous character of the etiology of overactive bladder or because the BDNF/Cr is not a specific biomarker for overactive bladder only but specific for all of the daily lower urinary tract dysfunctions.
