Abstract (EN)
Students usually have difficulty to learn some units and abstract concepts in science. It is essential to eliminate the encountered difficulties to realize the effective science teaching. There have been various methods to overcome the arisen problems in this process and Six Sigma is one of these methods which is new for the teaching and learning process to eliminate the misconceptions. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Six Sigma method on the academic success and entrepreneurship skills of the 5th grade students about teaching of the unit " Sun, Earth and Moon". In the study, a model with pre/post tests unequalized control group in the sense of quasi-experiment design method was used. Total 53 students, 27 experimental and 26 control group, participated in the research attending 5th grade in a secondary school in the city center of Amasya in 2018-2019 academic year. As a data collection tool, ''Sun, Earth and Moon Success Test'' with 25 multiple choise questions, ''Entrepreneurship Scale'' including 29 items designed with 3 Likert type and 27 multiple choice 27 open-ended "Sun, Earth and Moon Unit two step Test'' were assigned. In the research, content validity, matter difficulty index and matter distinguish index were investigated for the reability and the validity of the ''Sun, Earth and Moon'' Unit Success Test. After analysing the reability of the success test, KR-20 interior consistency cofficiency was determined as 0,83. As a result of matter distinguısh index, single correction was done in one of the items and any other item was not eliminated. KR-20 interior consistency cofficiency was calculated for the reability of the 27 multiple choice questions of the Two-step Test. It was seen that KR-20 value was 0,719. Content and Structure validities were investigated for the validity of the "Entrepreneurship Scale". Exploratory and Confirmatory factor analsis were made for the structure validity. After the analysis of exploratory factor analysis 2 items and after the analysis of the confirmatory factor analysis 2 items were eliminated from the scale. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale had a structure with 4 factors structure. This structure was confirmed with the confirmatory factor analysis and it was determined that the developed model was in accordance with the criteria in the literature. These determined sub-factors were named meaningfully as self-efficiency, need of success, personal benefiency, and lidership and responsibility. The data collected from the data collection tools were analysed with an appropriate statistical programs. The data obtained from ''Sun, Earth and Moon Unit Success Test'', "Sun, Earth and Moon Unit Two Step Test'' and "Entrepreneur Scale'' for experimental and control groups were analysed through indepentent and dependent groups t-test. Related to the data obtained from the research, there is a meaningfull difference in favour of experimental group when '' Sun, Earth and Moon Unit Success Test'' considered related to the mean values. It was determined that there is a meaningful difference in favour of experimental group related to the post test mean values of ''Entrepreneurship Scale''. At the end of the research, it was resulted that the activities were effective especially at the improve step for teaching based on 6-Sigma method with 5 step called Description-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control steps (DMAIC). The concept misunderstandings and choas arisen at the assessment step were eliminated with the activities used at the improve step. It was also observed that (DMAIC) process in 6-Sigma method increased the entrpreneurship skills of the students. It was also seen that 6- Sigma method increased the self efficiency, lidership and responsibility and need of success meaningfully which are the sub-factors of the entrepreneurship skill whereas it did not affect the sub-factor personal benificiency. Related to the research results, it can be recommended that the activities for science education course and other disciplines based on 6-Sigma method and developed ''Entrepreneurship Scale'' can be applied on the students at different levels and at different educational institutions.
