Özet (EN)

In this study, we analysed grief reactions exhibited towards death in the region by capitalising on the literary works telling about the region. Through the analysis of abstracts of novels and stories that contain grief reactions, we recognised that grief reactions in the region resembled to normal grief reactions in many respects, and that there also existed differences. Three main factors leading to differences were religious belief, economic conditions and local traditions. The effect of these three factors on grief reactions in the region has been identified to be as follows; - The Islam belief in the region helped the individual in grief give meaning to the death and accept the death reality. In the literature it has been expressed that religious belief suppresses grief feelings, and in a long term, effects grief period negativelly. Islamic belief suppresses grief feeelings too; but in the long term, how this suppression effects grief is still unknown. - Hard economic conditions facilitated for survivors to get rid of grief pain, to return to his normal life and to establish new plans. - The tradition that support remarriage of individual who loses his wife helped him appraise his wife's death as less threat and adapt himself to life without her.
