Page 125 The Southeastern Anatolian Project, one of the largest investments aiming at the development, is the biggest project being performed in our country This project has included the southern part of the Fırat and Dicle rivers and the valleys between those two rivers, All or some parts of Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Mardin, Siirt, Şanlıurfa, Batman and Sımak have been included in this project The Southeastern Anatolian Project has combined 13 major projects that have been planned for the irrigation and energy systems in that area Among those projects, 7 projects have been placed on the Fırat and 6 on the Dicle Rivers, 22 dams and 19 hydroelectric power plants will be built as part of this project Within the proposed completion of this project as stated in the study plan, a 1 8000 000 hectare area will be ready for irrigation and 22 Million kilowatt hours of hydroelectric energy will be generated. With regard to both irrigating area and energy that can be generated from hydroelectric power plants, the project will double Turkiye's current capacity and produce international effects. Within the application of this project, in connection with the physical changes of the area, the purposes of this study are to create a healty environment to preserve natural resourses and to identify alternative solutions in order to minimize negative effects by handling negative results on the environment objectively and abstractly To show the activity s effects on the environment, a possible environmental situation has been determined for the very near future.
