Abstract (EN)

Humanity has been in constant struggle throughout its history. It has entered into a struggle for survival both against nature and against its own race. Beginning with the instinct to protect himself from the wilderness, he began to protect himself against people from different cultures. With this protection motive, he built the fortification system by surrounding the area he lived in, thus laying the foundations of the first castle architecture in history. Castles of Southeastern Anatolia are Roman, Byzantine and Turkish Period architectural structures. In this study, the period in which the castles were built for the first time and which cultures were under the influence of the cast were evaluated. The architectural characteristics of the castles, their roles in the historical process, construction and material techniques, the repair and additions it has undergone are aimed to determine the defensive architecture and the history of the city during the Roman period.
