Abstract (EN)

This thesis examines the collective production of art after modernism and also traces collectivism as an artistic method in contemporary art.The study develops a historical framework on examining the transformations both on the notion of artist and on collective production. The articles of Barthes ?Death of the Author? and of Foucault ?Who is the Author?? turn out to be the major sources for the theoretical construction of novel definitions of collectivity. Additionally, not only the possibilities and limits of collective production as an extending field in art is exposed, but also the blurring tendencies in the boundaries of inter- subjectivity is defined.Parallel to the developments in art market due to modernism, transforming positions and the theoretical distance between artist and spectator are discussed. The boundaries of social, political and artistic activities in global world are elaborated and the paradigms defined by collective production in contemporary art are examined. The collective art works of Situationist International, Irwin, Guerilla Girls, Art and Language and Tucuman Arde are discussed in terms of their approach to resistance. Moreover, the experience of plastic arts in Turkey is traced parallel to the modernisation process. Firstly, the influence of modernisation and westernisation politics in the field of plastic art is examined periodically starting from Republican Period up to now. Secondly, the types of collective models with avangard and transforming potentials are elaborated in the contemporary art platform in Turkey. Finally, the limits of novel fields developed by new collective art is articulated in art world. In the conclusion, the discussions on the limits of a model for collective production in contemporary art is elaborated as well as the posibilities of collectivity in the context of global world.
