Art criticism and its educational characteristics in contemporary Turkish print media

This research has been held to inspect the effects of the field of art, art criticism and art aducation being transmitted the society and to measure the attention of the media and especially written media to the subject Newpapers like Radikal, Hürriyet, Sabah, Zaman and Cumhuriyet establish the environment of the research. The daily publications of the five newspapers 2002 and 2003 have been inspected using an analysis form. Because the main theme of the research is based on art, art criticism, art education and media, art criticism theory has been examined to detail and an work of art analysis is given as an example in Part I. Because one of the main themes of the research is media criticism, it has been started from questions like what is an art criticism and how it should be and them moved on to media criticism. In the first part of the research, art criticism and the history of art criticism in Turkey has been examined, then in the second part, the definition of the media which is one of the important centers of our research and its effects are mentioned. In the Di, analysis forms that are prepared to examine the apporoach of the written media to art, art criticism and art education, and the apporoarch of our five newpapers are determined and the results have been displayed with graphs. In part IV, after mentioning art education and the place and importance given to art education in the press, in the last part, all the results of our research and proposals have been displayed. The diagnosis of the research are: 1- Although the history of art criticism of art criticism in our country is not so old, there have been studies and publications and activities in the recent years in order to contribute to this field.IV 2- Although it is complained that there aren't any experts in the field of art cricisim, it can be mentioned that there are a few expert, though not many, even though all the difficulties in our country. 3- In our country, definitions like acedemic art criticism, pedagogic criticism, press criticism and commercial publications are confused with each other. 4- Media and written press, which is the theme of our research, do not give the required place and importance to art and art publications. 5- Publications of popular culture are being made in our country and its becoming more and more magazine publications. 6- Among the five newspapers that have been researched, only Cumhuriyet, Radikal and Sabah have an art page. Hürriyet and especially Sabah are unconcerned of the subject. 7- In popüler newspapers, it has been noted that art publications can find a place for themselves only if they are based on an economical phase such as ones that contain subjects like Picture bourse or ones that contain a sensational auction news. It is only possible to bring these art events to the press if popular names are involved in the particular art event. 8- Art criticizers can not find a place to expreaa themselves other than magazines. 9- It has been noted that art news only take place in newspapers to dodge rules or this is even seen as unnecessary. 10- Most of the artnews taking place in press are short activity advertisement publications and the writers of the most these publications are not known. 11- Because madia is very effective in our country, the fact that these affect children is mentioned a lot but a solution can not be found. Media, seems to be ethically uninterested about the effects on children. 12- In our research, it has been seen that all our five newspapers are not interested in art education and the educative aspect of art. 13- Although the madia in our country is aware of its power, it doesn't go into an arranging development. It is clearly seen that media is directed only on trade concerns. 14- Despite the complaints abouth media ignoring art and other cultural events, and despite the eriticisini other than our subject, the absence of a supervising power is clearly noticeable, however, it is impossible to mention an effort to establish an organization against the fact either from the viewers or from the media itself.
