Abstract (EN)
The mankind has always been curious to detect and stop motion and this curiosity has reflected itself on various means throughout history. Now, thanks to technological advancement, this curiosity has a more realistic and independent space on the two-dimensional scale of digital screens. This space offers various opportunities and thus enables a technical variety of content and leads to the development in animation techniques. Designers, artists, and animators combined many materials with the technical advancement to create various contents. Television, a mass media tool, has a direct contact with the individuals as it is audio visual. Hence, it addresses to a wider target audience. Public service ads addressing social problems and aiming at creating a behavioural change in the society are usually broadcasted over television to convey the message to the target audience in a more comprehensive way. The mankind's future is under a threat as the natural resources are being depleted, air pollution, water pollution and environmental pollution has become a trending global issue adversely affecting humans and other species. Within the scope of this research, national and international public service ads with sprite graphics have been analysed in terms of language, tone, audio elements, shooting techniques, camera movement, colour, symbolic storytelling, and typography. Since the public service ads for environment issues do not address to a specific industry and as their impact is lower than the other commercials in terms of visual activity; the application study is carried out within this theme. And for the application, a public service ad encouraging the sustainability through recycling paper waste is designed.
