The aims of learning, attitudes and skills of those learning Turkish as a foreign language in georgia

The purpose of this study is to examine the aims of learning Turkish, attitudes and skills of those learning Turkish as a foreign language in Georgia. 82 trainees who learned Turkish in Yunus Emre Institute in Tbilisi during the fall semester of 2015-2016 academic year participated in the study where survey model was applied. The levels of the students who form the sample of the research are as following: 13 of them are in A2, 39 of them are in B1, 24 of them are in B2 and 5 of them are in C1. "Turkish Learning Attitude Scale" was used in the collection of the data. In addition, the results of placement test of the students were analysed in order to determine the relationship between the attitudes of the students and their language skills. Arithmetic mean, indepent sample t-test, one way variance analysis (ANOVA) were used in the analysis of the retrieved data. In the research, it has been found that learners of Turkish language learn Turkish generally in order to spend their leisure time, to go abroad for holiday and find a job abroad and they have a low level of attitudes towards Turkish language and their levels of learning Turkish do not make a meaningful difference according to age and sex.
