Investigation of the motivation status of department of arts and crafts education students who graduated from the fine arts high schools

Motivation is one of the main phenomena, especially in educational psychology. In general, motivation theories seek the answer of what makes a person act or what makes them inactive, and what is effective in continuing the action. Motivation, which is a complex and multifactorial process, is related to both internal and external conditions. While intrinsic motivation is related to meeting needs such as knowledge, achievement and self-development, extrinsic motivation is formed by the influence of social factors such as respect, acceptance and appreciation. The importance of motivation in the academic education process is undeniable, as it creates an important place in human behavior and the success of students and the desire to achieve success. In this research, the motivation status of the students who graduated from fine arts high schools and received education in the department of arts and crafts education were examined. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the students who graduated from the fine arts high school and continue their education in the department of arts and crafts education, and after these interviews were dictated, content analysis was made. All of the participants stated that they have expectations from higher education in academic, physical conditions and teaching staff, etc.; however, most of them stated that their expectations were not met. The high expectations of the participants and the fact that these expectations are not met causes the motivation of the students to decrease. The main reason for this is that the fine arts high school and the departments of painting and business education are similar in terms of physical infrastructure and the names and contents of the field courses.
