Investigation analysis of fine arts awareness and attitudes of the old Turkish and İslamic works of school students

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the attitudes and attitude levels of art and fine faculty students with regard to gender, class, school variables regarding the Turkish Islamic historical works. Descriptive method was used in the research. The reseach was carried out on 134 students (83 female and 51 male) studying in Gazi University, Hacettepe University, Atatürk University, Dokuz Eylül University and İnönü University in the first, second, third and fourth grades. In the research, the scale tool with reliability and validity studies conducted by Bay, Mert and Alyılmaz was used. Chi Square, t-test, one way analysis of variance and Kruskal Wallis test techniques were used in the analysis of the data. The analysis of the data showed that the level of cognitive awareness of TIE, taking the course related to TIE in and out of the department where they are studying, being a membership of NGO or association related to TIE, attendance level of activities related to TIE, watching TV/radio program related to TIE, the level of reading books related to TIE of fine arts students are generally very low. According to the university variable that was studied in the research, it is founded that the fine arts students in Inönü University, then Dokuz Eylül University have the highest attitudes and the students in Hacettepe University have the lowest attitudes towards TIE. As a matter of fact, according to the results of ANOVA and PostHoc tests, the attitudes towards TIE of the fine arts students studying at Dokuz Eylül and İnönü University are significantly higher that the fine arts students studying at Hacettepe University. As a result, it was found that the fine arts faculty students have a low level of cognitive levels for the Turkish Islamic historical works and there are no significant difference between the cognitive levels of male and female students. The fine arts students prefer to take lessons related to TIE in the department instead of out of the department where they are studying. It was found that very few fine arts students attended social activities ans reas books related to TIE. The findings show that the female students are more likely to participate in activities and have a better attitude related to TIE than the male students. Moreover, the senior students have a higher cognitive level and attitude than the others. According to the results of the research, it is suggested to give better education to fine arts students about Turkish Islamic historical works.
