Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the nature of beauty inherent to human beings and its being an indispensable bodily attribute for the female gender is taken to be center. In this context, it has been investigated which ideas have affected the general state in which beauty becomes pathological in the current process; the things that are instrumentalized by the masculine domination regarding the determination of the beautiful sex have been discussed; important beautification practices in history have been included; the fact that neoliberal capitalism creates things through the value of commodities has been problematized. In this context, psychoanalytic readings have been examined in the subject of beauty, which has become an important sector for human beings, based on psychological infrastructures of childhood. Meanwhile, we focused Lacan's reading of Corps Morcele (Fragmented Body) which he reached through the mirror stage. In the light of all these data underlined in the thesis, the concept of Pathology of Beauty has been centralized as the main argument that the thesis wants to bring to the literature as a representative of the transformation that beauty has undergone today. Within the framework of the concept proposed as the Pathology of Beauty, besides the sub-meanings that beauty has gained in its historical adventure, has about the consumer society which has started an obsession to people about appearances. In this context, the word pathology has been given importance in terms of both referring to medical discourse language and giving a contribution to the art that the concept of pathos. As a result, it is desired to underline the change in the inner reality due to the new sub-meanings that beauty has gained today.
