Abstract (EN)

Millions of new developments happen in seconds and just a few of them become news. However, it is a great burden even for professional newspeople to keep up with such a high level of news flow. On the other hand, ordinary readers are inclined to follow news that is relevant to their personal preferences or conditions. One specific type of reader who emerges through this news bombardment is the group that thinks as "If the news is that important, it'll find me". Despite research in Europe and the USA through which the existence of this group is proved, there is no research regarding this group in Turkey. The aim of this research is to fill this gap and to determine digital reader types additionally. Nevertheless, the essential problem that this research goes after is which news is accepted under which conditions and opinions by the group of people who think properly significant news will find them. Accordingly, Selective Exposure Theory which has gained prominence again in the impact of media studies as a result of digitalization is our guide for the research. The researcher has developed three scales which are "Online News Reader", "Values of News Importance" and "Perception of News Importance" through the research designed by quantitative paradigm. Latent variables of the research theme are tested by two different structural equation models constituted by scales aforementioned before. Consequently, the existence of the group of readers who says "If the news is that important, it'll find me" is proven. For this group, interaction is at the forefront while choosing the news and in this regard, there is no distinction for them between negative and positive news. There is a relationship between Mood and Emotions, Seeking Supportive Information, Cognitive Dissonance and Tendency to Less Effort at this group's news perception.
