Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to identify misleading news headlines, social media shares and contents of video sharing platforms prepared to manipulate the reader. The rapid spread of digitalization has accelerated the transition from written sources to the digital world. Previously published newspapers and journals were moved to the virtual environment, each with their own social media accounts, web sites they broadcast on the internet were created. Some newspapers and journals stopped printing and decided to continue broadcasting in a completely digital environment. Moving to the virtual environment, however, does not prevent publication costs from continuing. Nearly all of these sources, which had previously been printed and then digitized, do not charge a subscription fee. In addition to this, the costs of the employees are prepared and published. This brings us to the ways in which these publications receive advertisements to cover their expenses and apply for increasing their advertising revenue. This also applies to social media and video sharing pages. Digital publications are required to attract visitors to the site in order to increase their advertising revenue, as they deal with the number of unique visitors entering the page. Because the ads are sometimes clicked, sometimes depending on the number of views they demand from the product owner. In order to increase the number of visitors, there are unethical methods such as improving the interface, content and author quality, as well as unethical methods such as preventing the ad from entering the site without clicking or even clicking the ad. Clickbait is also one of them. The Clickbait is the job of publishing the content under titles that will show the content to be different than it is, to direct the reader to read the news, click on the social media shares, and to watch a video that is unrelated to the title. It is common belief that the visitor uses the curiosity gap and that this is contrary to the reporting and publishing ethics. Keywords: Clickbait, Misleading news headlines, Social Networks, YouTube.
