Representation of women delinquency on online newspapers: Çilem Doğan's case

Media representations plays a big role in the construction of social facts. Media represantations reproduces the limits and the definitions of femininity, masculinity, crime and many other facts and situations and maintains its status. The increasing rate of women delinquency, reasons and factors that prompt the women to the crime, as well as what kind of a discourse is being said about women on the media and the forms of represantations that accompany this discourse is also an important research question. In this study, the most up to date and preffered forms of news about the representations of women who commit crime will be analyzed with the help of Çilem Doğan's case. In this study, using the method of discourse analysis while examinig the representation of women offenders who committed the crime of manslaugter will be described. The news published about the Çilem Doğan's issue that has been on the internet newspapers between 2015-2016 years was examined in-depth analysis. Based on this analysis, it has been tried to create a general frame for the social represantation of women who committed the crime of manslaughter. The theoretical background of the study aims to reflect a critical perspective about women delinquency and representation, in the context of theoritical approaches to the crime and online journalism.
