Examination of the Istanbul convention in the print media in context of framing the news and the organizational theory

The İstanbul Convention is the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Violenc eagainst Women and Domestic Violence. The Istanbul Convention is the contract opened by the Council of Europe for signature on 11 May 2011 in Istanbul in order to combat violence against women and domestic violence. Although the contract was referred to as the Istanbul Convention, as Turkey was the first country to sign this convention in the process of joining the European Union, there was a clear reaction from the sects after a short while. As the politics remained unresponsive to this, the cultist circles began to claim that the violence against women was caused by the legal regulations made on the basis of this convention. Although legally accepting domestic violence against women as a crime and penalizing it is a deterrent for perpetrators, the violence has not come to an end. However, the convention and the regulations made have lifted the veil of privacy of violence against women and made the violence visible. In the last few years, there has been a place in some media in the news of violence against women, which argues that the Istanbul Convention increases these crimes. Through newspapers that appeal to the conservative segment, the news of violence against women was skillfully framed and distorted, the perception that the contract gave rise to violence against women was created, and there action from this segment was blocked. On March 20, 2021, the contract was terminated with a presidential decree. The aim of this study, named "Examination of the Istanbul Convention in the Written Media in the Context of Framing in the News and Organization Theory", is to determine the broadcasting activities aimed at legitimizing the annulment of the law through a part of the printed media, whose target audience is the dark conservative groups who want the annulment of the law. In the context of organizational theory, the news texts that the mentioned media organizations resort to framing, especially in the news, were researched, and discourse analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was applied over the news related to the subject.
