Assessment of the wordings of the hadiths: The example of Sahih al-Bukhari

In this study, the efforts of the Muhaddiths to assess the wordings of the hadiths have been investigated within the framework of examples from Sahih al-Bukhari. Firstly, the language that the Prophet (peace be upon him) spoke before and after the prophethood, the efforts of the Companions (Sahabe) and the Followers (Tabiun) after the Prophet to memorize the words, the stages of the Arabic language, the factors influencing the wordings of the hadiths such as verbal and written narration in the era of narration, and the efforts of the Muhaddiths in this regard have been studied. This research differs from similar studies in terms of dealing with the efforts of the Muhaddiths on the assessment of the wordings in an independent study and evaluating them with applied examples in the context of Sahih al-Bukhari. The thesis focuses on three main topics. The first and second chapters are dedicated to an introduction to the main subject. In the third chapter, the issues related to Bukhari's efforts on the assessment of the wordings in his Sahih have been discussed. It has been tried to reveal the reasons of the differences in the wordings between the hadiths in terms of both text and narration (sened). This study, which is the first in its field in terms of examining the efforts to preserve the originals of the wordings of the hadiths, revealed that, in the case of Sahih al-Bukhari, the Muhaddiths were not content with only the research of narration, but also showed meticulous efforts to preserve the originality of the text.
