Abstract (EN)
An antibacterial ceramic contains an antibacterial metal such as silver, copper, and zinc on acalcium ceramic carrier. The aforementioned antibacterial ceramic is formed to be relativelyporous so as to enhance its antibacterial property. However, many of such conventionalantibacterial ceramics have been dense and heavy. There has also been known antibacterialmaterials made by adding an antibacterial metal to a plastic and glass. However, suchantibacterial materials have a low antibacterial property because of low porosity. Anantibacterial ceramic filter contains an antibacterial material produced by loading anantibacterial metal such as silver on a calcium ceramic carrier. The antibacterial ceramic filtercan not only remove but also extirpate bacteria and microorganisms of a liquid. It is alsopossible to make the diameter of pores a little larger than conventional filters so that thefiltering time is shortened without decreasing the clearness of the liquid because theantibacterial ceramic can extirpate bacteria which passes through the pores and can not beremoved. In this thesis study, metal cation and organic additive added calcium phosphatebased antibacterial ceramic and antibacterial ceramic filter production and characterizationwas investigated. XRD patterns showed that powder has mostly hydroxyapatite structure.Light ceramics with low strength values were produced. Organic additive caused the porosity.Escherichia coli was used for antibacterial analysis. Bacteria were cultivated to ceramic andfilter surface and bacteria growth behaviour was observed after 24 hours. End of time, bacteria density was very high at blank samples. Bacteria density was less due to silverincluding. And no bacteria detected in samples containing the highest amount of silver.2006, 88 PagesKey Words: Antibacterial, hydroxyapatite, calcium phosphate, organic additive, filter.ii
