Determination of mutageni̇c activity of halfenprox by using ames test

Dr. Ahmet SERTESER In this study, the mutagenic effect of Halfenprox used in agriculture widely have been investigated by using short-term bacterial mutagenicity test system namely Salmonella/microsome. In the Salmonella/microsome test system the mutant strains used are Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 and TA 100. Therefore, both test strains were tested in the absence or presence of S9 metabolic activation. For this, 6,25g/plate, 12,5g/plate, 25g/plate, 50g/plate, 100g/plate concentrations of Halfenprox were tested in two paralel independent experiments. At the absence of S9, 4-nitro-o-fenilendiamine, at the presence of S9, 2-aminofluorene was used as a positive control for TA 98. At the absence of S9 sodium azid, at the presence of S9 2-aminoanthracene was used as a positive control for TA 100. DMSO solution and spontaneous control groups were used as a negative control. Results of experiments were compared with positive and negative control groups data. The obtained data were statistically evaluated by Dunnett's t-test. Consequently; Halfenprox was not found mutagenic both TA 98 and TA 100 strains with or without S9. This study represents a first step in mutagenicity studies and need to support by other mutagenicity test methods in order to final results.
