The urban transformation occured by the industrialization in the Golden horn seashore

The Golden Horn seashore, which is an important part of İstanbul, has continued its urban development, including many different urban functions since the establishment of the city. After 19th century, by the industrialization period, its development has followed a completely different way and an urban transformation has happened in this place. In the 20th century, the physical, social and functional effects of this regeneration are seen in the region and the city has lost a lot of its historical texture. In this research, it is aimed to point out, how the Golden Horn seashore has changed its way of physical and funtional development.In this research, the development and the changings of the environment of Golden Horn has described in the process of history, according to physical and historical data. First of all, historical development of İstanbul and the Golden Horn seashore since the establisment of Byzantion has been explained by separating into historical periods. While explaining the physical and functional development of the Golden Horn seashore in these periods, it is researched that how the functions in Golden Horn like trade, housing, industry, summer housing and holy places are effected the environment and the Golden Horn silhouette.It is researched how the industrialization period and the urban plannings made since 19th century affected the urban regeneration near the Golden Horn. It is determined that the role of industrialization, urban plannings and the transportation system decided by the governments on the urban regeneration are very important.In this research, visual documents like the maps, gravings, old photographs belonging to the different periods are used as well. According to the data obtained in this research, maps and silhouette drawings are produced in order to indicate the functional development of the Golden Horn seashore by a visual expression.Key words: Haliç, Golden Horn, seashore, silhouette, urban transformation, urban planning, industrialization, functional development, historical area.
