Abstract (EN)
Halide Edip Adıvar is one of the most prominent intellectual figures of Turkey who not only witnessed significant historical moments such as the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy, the last periods of Ottoman Empire, War of Independence, the establishment of the Republic, and the transition to multi-party system, but also was personally involved in various events shaping the course of history. She was a spirited character who had the courage to be on the field at a time when women did not have any political or social rights. Moreover, she was also interested in literature, military matters, and politics. In addition to her literary persona, Halide Edip also had an intellectual side often ignored by many others. This study will holistically present Halide Edip Adıvar's opinions on Turkish democracy and her time as deputy during Democrat Party's time in power from a biographical perspective. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the life and political persona of Halide Edip Adıvar, and introduce readers to her activities during her active political life. In the first part of the study, Halide Edip Adıvar's life before the National struggle, in the second part her activities during the National struggle, in the third part her activities after the National struggle, and in the fourth part, her position in the Turkish political life by emphasizing her views on the Democratic Party period and Turkish democracy.
