A study on people's expections and satisfaction related to sport service from municipalities: Kırşehir Municipality sample

In this study, the determination of expectation and satisfaction degrees related to sports services of Kırşehir people has been aimed. İt has also been aimed to bring out what kind of activities and duties municipalities should undertake in sports, to be informative and instructive in this issue. The population of survey includes 114.24464 people living in the center boundaries of Kırşehir Municipality. The sample group includes 1450 people who were chosen with random sampling method, living in the center boundaries of Kırşehir Municipality. Participants determined in that way were conducted a questionnaire within the November and December months of 2012. Examining 1450 questionnaires conducted, it was left 202 questionnaire out of assessment seemed erroneous and not fit the purpose. 1248 remaining questionnaire were processed. In the survey it was used the questionnaire of ?the expectations and satisfaction of public about sports services from municipalities?. Forming a matter pool was tried in this phase. A 40 question draft questionnaire was formed examining the literature by the researcher6,7,8,9,66,67,68,69. Then, in order to enable the content validity of the draft questionnaire, the questions were evaluated by instructors two of whom are experts on ?Sports Management? and the other on ?Assessment and Evaluation?. Therefore, some questions were taken out of the questionnaire and the number of total questions was decreased to 26. These 26 questions were evaluated one more by an expert on ?Turkish Education? on the basis of language usage and the last pattern of the questionnaire was formed 6 of which measures people?s expectations and satisfactions from the municipality services. In the survey it was used descriptive statistics. Analysis given it was used frequency distribution (n), percentage (%), chi-square ( ). As comparing expectations and satisfaction related to sports services of public from municipalities to variables of gender, occupation and educational status, it was used technique. Chi-square independence test is the one which determines whether it is significant or not the relations between two variables having nominal data71. While used this technique, it was examined significance level of questions of the questionnaire in the SPSS 11.5 program. reliability level received as p<0,05. When generally assessed the obtained data in the survey, it was found out that local administrations officiate their duties mid-level which was determined in basic law and laws. It takes an important place the sports services in relations of public with municipality. Participants remark that they could change their political preference if the municipalities succeed in sports services. It was found out that participants do not follow the municipality services in detail. While nearly half of the participants are disposed to support ocular and financially on building sports services in nature; they deliver negative opinions about the privatization of facilities. It was ensued that a great majority of sample group could not deliver their needs and expectations on sports. As reasons of it they rank the options of ?not believing in their demands not to be accepted?, ?not being able to find to see the authorities? and ?not existing a special unit dealing with sports activities?. Another result obtained from survey is that nearly 3/2 of sample group does not exploit the sports facilities belonging to municipality. As reasons of it participants rank ?available facilities not being able to be run productive?, ?not being done encouraging organizations? and ?facilities not being usable?. They rank as general problem of available sports facilities that ?personal problem?, ?management problem? and ?they not being open for use?. One result from the survey is the fact of that satisfaction of natural motion need of city man becomes a problem of the municipalities and that it should be taken into consideration of expectations and satisfaction of public while these needs are provided.
