Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of different taping techniques applied on individuals with hallux valgus deformity on pain, balance and functionality. Thirty-three volunteers between the ages of 18-60 who have bilateral hallux valgus deformities with no rigidity were included in the study. Individuals were included in equal numbers into 3 groups as kinesiology taping, athletic taping and placebo taping groups. Each group was taped 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Hallux valgus angle, assessment of pain, navicular drop test, foot posture assessment, one-foot heel raise test, 10 meter walking test, y balance test, foot function index, American orthopaedic foot and ankle association scale interphalanx and midfoot and lastly Manchester-Oxfors foot questionnaire data were recorded before and 4 weeks after taping. Kinesio and athletic taping had positive results on hallux valgus angle, pain, balance and functionality parameters. Placebo taping had positive results in pain, balance and functionality parameters. When the 3 groups were compared to each other, kinesio and athletic taping were found to be statistically more significant than placebo taping in the 10m walking test ( p=0,003). Foot function index was found to be statistically more significant with athletic taping than kinesio and placebo taping (p=0.042). In Manchester-Oxford subparameter of walking/standing, athletic taping results were found to be statistically significant compared to kinesio and placebo taping (p=0.040). In conclusion, it can be said that kinesio and athletic taping techniques are an alternative method that can be used in the rehabilitation of individuals with hallux valgus deformity to improve balance, functionality and to reduce pain.
