Social realism in Hanna Mina's novels

276 ABSTRACT The study entitled "Social realism in Hanna Mina's Nowels" analyzes 22 of Hanna Mina's novels written between 1954-1995 in the light of social realism. Hanna Mina is one of the most important contemporary Arab writers who lived in Hatay till the age of 15 and emigrated to Latakia in Syria. In the Introduction information on realism and social realism has been given and it has been observed that themes of social realism in his novels are: ideology, struggle, heroism, class discrimination, labour, democracy, social development and liberty. The first chapter covers the writer's biography, literary personality and works. It focuses on his novels and gives their summaries. In the second chapter how the eight themes rendered in his novels has been studied by giving examples. All the themes, which are interwoven, related to social realism can be seen in Hanna Mina's novels. In some of the novels; however, only some of themes are found. As a result, it is understood that the concern in the novels is more on social realism rather than critical realism.
