Abstract (EN)
The number of amputees has been significantly increasing due to various reasons including diseases, traffic accidents, birth defects and injuries in military. Artificial prosthetic devices replacing missing part of the body could be extremely beneficial for such handicapped people in obtaining normal physical activity.The requirements include both aesthetic and functional needs of handicapped people.These requirements further extend with usability and economical issues. With these long list of requirements, there are many local optimum design solutions.The proposed design consist of 5 fingers with fixed proximal interphalangeal (PIP), distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints and compliant metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint. The control mechanism of the prosthesis is based on the neural signals and muscular activity using a wireless 8 channel electromyogram neural interface which does not require any external controller.The experimental results show that the system is able to achieve an important part of the functional as well as appearance-based poses, and the Neural interface is successful in controlling the prosthesis for many tasks. These results are encouraging and demonstrate the potential of the proposed system to assist the physically handicapped in simulating human-like movement and accomplishing daily tasks. This work also proposes an artificial neural network model to gather prosthetic hand control command from electromyogram(EMG) signals. Main criteria is to apply fast methods and exploit recent data in order to decrease command detection latency.
