ABSTRACT Master Thesis INVESTIGATION OF THE MOVING FINITE ELEMENTS METHOD Mehmet ÇINAR Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering 2005, Page:79 The one of the commonly used methods for solution of partial differential equations is the finite element method. While a differential equation is solved by means of finite element method, the solution domain has to divide subregions called as mesh. The classical finite element method is sufficient for instance solution of partial differential equations. But, when time-dependent partial differential equations have existed and the mesh has changed through time, instead of classical finite element method, moving finite element method is employed. The use of moving finite element method provides to obtain a quick solution on the changing regions of mesh. In this thesis, moving finite element method is considered. For this purpose, transformation of coordinate, selection of monitor function which is very important for local modifications is detailed in one and high dimensions. As application, a software is realised based on C++. Key words: Mesh generation, moving finite element method, moving mesh methods. VI
