Antibiotic resistance in gram negative bacteria that cause nosocomial infections

Abstract (EN)

Demonstrating antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacteria isolated from examination materials taken from patients with a diagnosis of nosocomial infections hospitalized at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, Balcalı Hospital, as well as demonstrating the concern and extent of resistance to colistin, which is re-used due to the increasing resistance problem. For this purpose, examination materials belonging to patients diagnosed with nosocomial infections were inoculated in Eosin Methylene Blue Agar medium between 12.10.2020-08.02.2021 in the microbiology unit of our hospital, pure cultures of 109 Gram-negative bacterial strains confirmed by Gram staining and microscopic examination were performed and for identification biochemical tests and Vitek-2 ® Compact Bacterial Identification System were used. Isolates; 35 were diagnosed as Escherichia coli, 29 as Klebsiella pneumoniae, 33 as Acinetobacter baumannii and 12 as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. As a result of the antibiogram performed using the Kirby Bauer Disk Diffusion Method; All strains showed 'multiple antibiotic resistance', while none of the strains studied showed resistance to the antibiotic colistin.
