The replacement investment desicions in health care organizations and an application in a radiology department of an university hospital

Today, the investments for continously developing medical technologyshould be dealt comprehensively in health care organizations, which becometo use progressively more intensive technology.In view of the fact that the resources of the companies are limited theseresources should be used in best appropriate wise. In this manner, thecompanies consider the profitability of the investment and consequently ofthe foundation and for this reason they use financial analyses in great extent.Similarly, healthcare organizations should use their limited resources in bestwise also they should continue their health services in an optimum way,increase their profitability and reach their targets. Therefore using thefinancial analyses is unavoidable in healthcare organizations.Among the healthcare investments, technology replacementinvestments take major part. Not only the factors like medical requirement,safety, effectivity, efficiency, cost effectivity but also the subjects like demandestimation, capacity calculations, return on investment or profitabilitycalculation should be considered in medical technology investments.This study was carried out in an university hospital. In this study anapplication was made for the consideration of replacement investment forcomputed tomography, which became necessary for diagnosis in healthcareservices and require great investment capital among technology replacementinvestments.In this application calculation of the rate of using capacity, estimationof patient demand in the coming years, research the relationship between therate of using capacity and demand were carried out respectively and in thenext step the profitability of this investment was evaluated by using financialanalyses. In the result of this evaluations the decision was made forinvestment.
