Health care satisfaction and healthy life education consciousness levels of parents with hospitalized children

This research was conducted to evaluate the health care satisfaction and healthy life education awareness levels of parents with hospitalized children and to examine the relationship between them. The research is a descriptive, cross-sectional and relationship-seeking type of research. Parents of children hospitalized in a pediatric clinic in a district public hospital in the Black Sea Region constitute the population of the research, and parents who meet the inclusion criteria for the study between July and December 2022 constitute the sample of the research (n = 211). Research data were collected with the "Descriptive Information Form", 'Healthy Life Education Consciousness Level Scale (HLECLS) 'PedsQL Health Care Satisfaction Scale (PHSS)'. In statistical analysis; descriptive statistics, Cronbach's Alpha, independent samples t-test (student t-test); One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Post Hoc Tukey HSD and Tamhane's T2 were used for pairwise comparisons and Pearson correlation analysis was used for inter-scale relationships. It was determined that the average age of the parents participating in the study was 30.15±6.33, 90% of them were mothers, 59.2% were of nuclear family type, and 47.4% are high school graduates or above. 33.6% of parents do not follow current developments in healthy life education. It was determined that the total score average of the HLECLS was 125.65 ± 19.65, and the total score average of the PHSS was 69.80±20.25. It was determined that fathers (technical skills), those whose income level is more than the expenses (family participation), those who have been accompanied before (general satisfaction) and those who follow health-related developments (total, information, family participation, technical skills) have statistically higher mean score in terms of PHSS (p<0.05). It was determined that parents whose children had a hospital stay of 6 days or more (scale total, information) had a statistically higher mean score in terms of PHSS (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in the parents' mean HLECLS scores in terms of their education level, gender (physical health, mental health/social activity), family type, profession (total, physical health, mental health/social activity), working status and status of following health-related current developments. (p<0.05). It was determined that parents whose children had chronic diseases (physical health, hygiene) had a statistically higher average score in terms of HLECLS (p<0.05). It was determined that the mean scores of PHSS and HLECLS did not constitute a statistically significant difference according to other sociodemographic characteristics of children and parents (p>0.05). It was determined that there was a weak and significant positive relationship between the parents' HLECLS and PHSS total and subscale mean scores (p<0.001). As a result, it has been determined that increasing parents' awareness of healthy life education can contribute to their increase in health care satisfaction. In addition, it is recommended that health care environments be improved in terms of parents' emotional support needs, nurses use their holistic roles more effectively, and parent healthy life awareness training programs be included.
