Material management in hospitals and comparing the two hospital's material management systems with an application,

One of the important aim of hospitals is to use the resources effective and efficiently. Materials are needed for hospitals to give service effectively and at the right time. Also material expenses is an important part of total hospital budget. Materials costs incurred in hospitals rather large dimensions. The absence of an effective material management system in hospitals also increases inventory costs. Before purchase and after the purchase of materials delivery and stock control processes can?t made effectively. If material management process don't made effectively, the material resources will be waste. Therefore, the material management functions should be known and the cost of materials should be assess in a good way. First part of the study includes general information about hospitals. In the second part of the study is about material management process, the importance of material management for hospitals, material management organization models, informations about material management function which includes planning the material requirement, purchasing and methods of purchasing, stock control methods, storage, transporting and distributing, quality control and assessment of waste products is introduced.In the third part, field research is made for material management applications in Hacettepe University Hospitals and Ankara University İbni Sina Hospital. Politics of material management and process of material management are tried to explain with examples and this study is to identify the problems in material management systems and propose an ideal material management system model.
