Air passenger and cargo transportationiapplication for world and Turkey

The transportation sector, providing transportation of persons or goods from one destination to another started to become more and more important in our globalizing world, which becomes a smaller village every single day. Air transportation is one of the transportation types that succeeded in putting itself forward in the beginning of the 20th century among transportation types.The fact that the air transportation sector is one of the sectors most open to the international arena, causes the concept of globalization to effect this sector deeply. Notwithstanding the foregoing, deregulation lived in the sector, privatizations, company mergers and business associations as well as regulations made in the international arena attract attention. On the other hand, economic crises lived during the last years and terrorist attacks have also affected the transportation sector. In our country however, the air transportation sector entered a trend of rapid growth as realization of domestic flights by private airline companies was permitted, foundation of companies became easy, provision of ease in supply of airplanes and personnel, government grants, incentives and discounts. This trend of growth also caused demand for cargo and passengers to increase. However, the sector that grows continuously and rapidly capacity problems that are difficult to plan. Planning a fleet having airplanes of different types and numbers and letting them fly at times that will meet the demands of the passengers has become a significant strategy for airlines.The purpose of this study is to be informed about the operation of air transportation that develops every single day and to be able to come up with proposals of solution for problems that occur within this process of development. Importance of transportation and modes of transportation will be analyzed in the first part of the study, passenger air transportation will be reviewed in the second part and the air cargo transportation sector will be analyzed in the third part and surveys were made in the last part on the other hand with enterprises registered by Turkish Civil Aviation and some foreign airline companies in order to determine the problems of air transportation and support the theoretical infrastructure of this study and the results of the surveys were analyzed.Keywords: 1) Transportation 2) Logistics 3)Air Transportation
