Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to determine the reflection of the attitudes and learning processess to authentic task-based environments in the life science class. The study was based on a mixed model design, and conducted using an embedded experimental design. The study was performed in the autumn semester of the 2015-2016 academic year, at one of the third grades of an elementary school located in the provincial center of Uşak, Turkey. Study data were collected through the Attitude Scale for Life Science Class; observations and video records; semi-structured interviews with teachers, students and parents; and students materials. Quantitative data obtained during the study were analyzed using the t-test, which is a parametric test, while qualitative data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The study collected data regarding the students' attitudes towards the life science class, the attitudes they displayed in authentic task-based learning environments, and the views of the students and their parents. In this context, it was determined that authentic task-based learning environments have a positive impact on students' attitudes towards the life science class. The study demonstrated that authentic task-based environments encouraged higher-level thinking skills among students, while also allowing them to develop a different perspective, share real life experiences, utilize primary sources, work in cooperation, continue communication outside of classes, assume multiple roles, associate authentic contexts with their own lives, benefit from the experiences of real-life experts, and reflect between themselves. In addition, it was also determined that the students and their parents generally shared positive views concerning the utilization of authentic task-based learning environments, and that they considered this practice as fairly effective.
