Abstract (EN)

The world has been standing thanks to production since it existed. The main source of production has been humans. However, things were no longer the same when production met machines. Iron touched soil. The fertility of soil which the iron touched has increased, while its need for humans decreased. People rushed into cities. Because the iron that touched the soil was what made city "city" at the same time. Working life outside began for the families when they became city-dwellers. They were shown ways of consuming without producing in the mean time. People's main need turned into consumption instead of production. And women were placed in the center of this production. Thus, the fact that women were led to consumption has become one of the topics that magazine publishing has focused most. The content of magazines has been structured in order to serve this consumption. In these magazines, efforts to lead women to consumption have been seen most. Woman's body was used as the material in this path. The reason why the magazine "Hayat" that is the subject of study has been chosen is that it drove forward woman's nakedness and used it as the agent. While the magazine "Hayat" was examined, Teun A. Van Dijk's "Critical Discourse Analysis" was used as the technique. Through this technique, the numbers of the magazine "Hayat" between years 1956-1960 were handled within macro-micro analysis. Within the concept of the study, the fact that women are used as "meta" in the news, advertisements and visual materials were tried to be proven. Which elements women are used with or in contrast which elements are presented with women as visuals were examined. The study consists of three parts. The first part includes magazine publishing in the world and in Turkey, the history of magazine publishing. The second part touches upon women's body, object-"meta" elements, sexuality, consumption and the participation of women in consumption. And in the third part the technique of the thesis, how the technique is applied and the presentation of women in the magazine Hayat are examined and the findings are included. Key Words: Woman, Hayat, meta.
