Abstract (EN)
Starting in the 2000s, population growth, industrial advancements, and rapid/accelerated urbanization have significantly increased the urgency of water and food demand.Water, as a scarce and essential resource, must be managed responsibly to ensure its availability for the future. The effects of climate change have become more apparent in recent years, and when combined with the misuse of natural resources, they place significant strain on water supplies. Therefore, managing water resources effectively and sustainably is vital to meet the needs of both present and future generations.Dams, which are one of the key elements of water resource management, are designed to meet various needs such as irrigation, flood control, and energy production, despite being high-cost structures.In this process, the reservoir capacities of dams are generally determined using preliminary (basic) design methods. This study examines the design process of the Çine Adnan Menderes Dam. During the early planning phase, methods such as "mass curve method, residual mass curve method, minimum flows method, sequential peaks algorithm, and probability-based approaches" were applied. In the final design phase, techniques like " Moran and Gould's probability matrix methods," and synthetic flow data sets were utilized. The analysis results indicate that determining the storage capacity solely based on measured flow data may lead to significant errors. However, using synthetic flow data and considering extreme conditions provides the opportunity to assess potential risks during the design phase or in the operation of existing dams.
