Abstract (EN)

During recent years, the rapid growth of the construction sector in our country and the increased quality requirements for the constructions have contributed to the development and growth of the ready-mixed concrete sector. As a result, we can see from the statistics that there is a significant increase in occupational accidents related to the growing and developing ready-mixed concrete sector. Although it is said that the development of the occupational health and safety field will take some time because it is considered to be a new field, many mistakes can be made due to conceptual confusion and not knowing the scope and objective of the field. First of all, it should be known that occupational health and safety is a concept for people (employee). Considering this, the efforts concerning the health, physical integrity and life of the employee should come before cost and loss of time. Therefore, the adoption of the necessity that occupational health and safety precautions should be prior to production, stability and profit; will lead the studies in this field to success. According to the proactive approach, occupational health and safety efforts should start in the establishment phase of a workplace and should include the examination of the risks and hazards within the workplace, and also in the same sector and other similar workplaces. The fact that the relevant legislation for ready-mixed concrete sector is unspecific, like many sectors, this situation causes a lack of clarity and negatively affect the implementation process. The ready-mixed concrete sector is considered as a whole including production, distribution, and placement. Since the distribution and placement are not in a certain domain, it is not possible to determine the possible dangers in advance and therefore, occupational health and safety mostly provided with methods such as instructions and work permit systems. Although the location of the ready-mixed concrete facilities and their geographies/areas vary, it is observed that there are similar sources of danger in terms of workplace accidents. In this study, it is seen that the sources of danger detected in 15 different ready mixed concrete plants and the measures to be taken against them should be considered during the installation phase of the plant and to take precautions in advance for determining the settlements and sections is essential, which could be impossible to change later. In terms of existing facilities, human (employee) life and health should not be sacrificed for the sake of the extent and cost of the work to be carried out. This study designed as a guideline, by showing sources of danger and precautions that can be taken in the facilities by employing tangible examples, and so necessary arrangements for the facilities could be made.
