The effectiveness of HealOzone system on fissure caries in-vivo

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of ozone alone and with a re-mineralizing solution following application on non-cavitated pit and fissure caries lesions in permanent molar teeth and the success of given oral hygiene education with the treatment proceduresThe study was carried out on 40 girl/boy children with ages ranging between 9-12 years. According to laser fluorescence system values (value 11-30), and CSI scores (scor 1-2a), 40 non-cavitated pit and fissure caries lesions on bilateral permanent mandibular 1. molar teeth were participated in the study. Patients were randomly allocated to 2 experimental groups consisting of 20 subjects. The bilateral molar teeth in the same patient?s mouth were randomly allocated to control and experimental test lesions. In the first group, gaseous ozone was applied for 40 seconds to the assigned test teeth of each pair, whereas in the second group, gaseous ozone was applied for 40 seconds to the assigned test teeth of each pair with the use of re-mineralizing solution. At the beginning of the study the oral hygiene education including the importance of tooth brushing habit and oral health was given and repeated on all recall visits. The deterioration or improvement of experimental end control test lesions was compared at baseline, after treatment and at 1., 2., 3., 6 months follow-up according to DIAGNOdent results; besides the changes of CSI and oral hygiene scores were compared at baseline, and at 1., 2., 3., 6 months follow-up. The results were analyzed statistically by making comparisons within (Mann-Whitney test) and between (Wilcoxon test) groupsAs a result, statistically significant differences were found between all of the control and experimental test lesions in each group (p<0.001). However for the remineralization came into being for the experimental teeth of each group, statistically significant difference was not found (p>0.001). Methods didn?t affect the CSI scores except for the control teeth of 1. study group within the study period. A statistically unsignificant improvement was found for oral hygiene status of all patients between the primary and 6. month examinations (p>0.002Within the time period, ozone treatment alone or combined with re-mineralizing solution was found effective on remineralization of initial fissure caries lesions and had influence on oral hygiene motivation.
