Investigation of helichrysum pamphylicum davis & kupicha species in terms of phytochemical profile and biological activity

Abstract (EN)

Of the phenolic acids, protocatechic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, para-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, ortho-coumaric acid, and trans-cinnamic acid were determined in the phytochemical content with the analysis of infusions and decoctions prepared from Helichrysum pamphylicum Davis & Kupicha, which is the member of Asteraceae family, with flowers and buds, an endemic species grown in our country, by HPLC-DAD. Acetic acid, γ-muurolene, γ-cadinene, δ-cadinene, and germacrene D were identified as major compounds by GC and GC/MS method from H. pamphylicum with flowers and buds. According to the results of biological activity; infusion, decoction and essential oils of H. pamphylicum with flowers and buds have strong antioxidant activity, strong MAO-B, moderate cholinesterase, and strong MMP-2 inhibitory effects on the basis of macro and micro chelating method. In addition, only the extracts proved strong antioxidant effect by ABTS radical cation decolorization and DPPH free radical scavenging method, and moderate anti-inflammatory effect by COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme inhibition method. Decoction of H. pamphylicum with flowers indicated specific antitumor activity with strong CD-73 enzyme inhibition. Antioxidant, anti-Alzheimer's, anti-Parkinson's and anti-inflammatory activities of infusion, decoction, and essential oils of H. pamphylicum with flowers and buds were studied for the first time in this thesis.
