Abstract (EN)
Although parenting, which is a universal term, is the same all over the world, the differences in parents' attitudes and behaviors affect children's development, social life and academic life in different dimensions. In this study, the effect of helicopter parenting on children's social and academic success was examined. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of helicopter parent attitudes shown by parents on the social and academic success of 3rd grade primary school students. The population and sample of the research consists of 232 students studying in public schools in Sinop city center and the parents of these students. As a data collection tool in the study, the social skills scale was applied to the students to determine their social success, and the felt helicopter parent scale was applied to determine their parenting levels. Self-perception helicopter attitude scale was applied to parents to determine their parenting levels. In order to measure the academic success of children, IYEP results were examined. In the research, the data obtained from the students and the students' parents were examined and the parenting attitudes of the parents were first analyzed. The perceived parenting attitudes obtained from the students were determined. The results obtained were compared with the self-perception helicopter attitudes obtained from the students' parents. The results of the data collected in the study were also discussed with the results of the social skills test applied to the children. Within the scope of the research, the data obtained from students, mothers and fathers, and the Primary Education Education Program (İYEP) results obtained from schools with the approval of the National Education were entered into the SPSS program and the necessary analyzes were made. First of all, the reliability and normality analysis of the data was carried out, and since the results showed that the data were normal, parametric tests were performed and the research questions were answered by means, t-tests and one-way analysis of variance. The findings were interpreted with support from the literature. According to the results obtained from the research, it was concluded that the academic and social success of the children of parents with helicopter parenting attitudes was lower than the children of parents with normal attitudes or indifferent attitudes.
