Abstract (EN)

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is used in the treatment of many malignant and non-malignant diseases. Complications and mortality rates associated with HSCN have decreased significantly with new developments in this field. The re-immunization programmes applied to these patients in the post-transplant period significantly reduce the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. Due to the heterogeneous nature of the patients who are undergoing HSCT, it is very difficult to establish a standard immunization programme. New studies are carried out every day to create the ideal immunization programme. In this study, we aimed to determine the factors affecting the vaccine serology in order to contribute to the formation of the ideal immunization program. Hepatitis A (n:76), hepatitis B (n:81), measles (n:65), rubella (n:65), mumps (n:64) and varicella (n:62) serology results of patients who underwent HSCT between 2012 and 2020 at Akdeniz University Hospital, Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, and who completed post-transplant vaccination in accordance with the protocol in the Department of Social Pediatrics were analyzed according to the variables included in the scope of the study. After primary immunization series 97.4% of the patients developed protective antibody titers against hepatitis A, 97.5% against hepatitis B, 93.8% against rubella, 88.5% against varicella, 87.1% against measles, and 80.3% against mumps. Advanced age at the time of transplantation or vaccination was associated with post vaccination rubella and mumps seronegativity (p<0,05). No other variable showed statistically significant difference in terms of response to the vaccines. As a result, protective levels of antibodies against the six diseases within the scope of our study could be provided in the majority of hematopoetic stem cell recipients with timely and appropriate doses of vaccines in the post-transplant period.
