Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study to show vestibular system functions with new method oVEMP in patients requiring dialysis because of chronic renal failure patients. Design: Case control study Settings: Baskent University department of otorhinolaryngology Method: This study was carried out with 40 healty volunteers (control group) and 40 dialyse patient with chronic renal failure (study group). Otorinolaryngology examination first to all participant. Then tuning folk test has been applied to all participant. Participant without conductive hearing loss with tuning folk test included in study. oVEMP test applied to participant. Demographic datas of all participant were recorded; n1 and p1, latencies and amplitude values determined in the measurements were compared between both groups and within themselves. Results: 40 participant in control group (19 female, 21 male), 40 participant in study group (22 female, 18 male) included. Average age was in 45.17±13.54 years in control group, and in study group it was 47.68±11.02 years. p1 latency value in control group was 14.88±3.28 ms and it was 14.90±3.70 ms in study group (p=0,976). n1 latency value in control group was 9.94±2.33 ms and it was 10.74±3.15 ms in study group. The n1 value was found to be statistically prolonged in study group (p=0.013). Amplitude value in control group was 10.59±7.87 μV, it was 5.5±3.71 μV in study group. The amplitude value in control group was founded significantly higher than study group (p=0.001). In both group IAR values were under 0,35. When were examine parameters by gender, there was no statistically differnce between both group (p>0.05). Conclution: oVEMP is fastly responding and non-invasive test which is commenly use in patient with vertigo. Vertigo, which we frequently encounter in patients with renal failure on dialysis, seriously reduces the quality of life. In this patients, oVEMP test is fast responding, safe and it is safe to applied with other vestibular tests.
