Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study aims to identify the effect of education based on RAM given to individuals who receive hemodialysis treatment on acceptance of illness and fluid control. Material and Method: This study adopted quasi-experimental design with experimental and control groups. Target population of the study, which was conducted between January 2016 and December 2017, was 188 registered patients who were treated in Erzurum Regional Education and Research Hospital, Atatürk University Yakutiye Research Hospital, and Ağrı State Hospital dialysis centers. The sample was 81 patients who met the inclusion criteria - 42 patients in the experimental group and 39 patients in the control group. Data were collected using Hemodialysis Patients Identification Form, AIS, and FCSHP. Data were analyzed using numbers, percentages, minimum-maximum values, means and standard deviations, Student-t test, Chi-square analysis, Mann Whitney U test, Will Coxon test, and Spearman correlation analysis. Findings: It was found that the education based on RAM had no effects on patients' level of acceptance of illness (p>0.05). It affected their knowledge, behaviours, and attitudes sub-scale scores and total fluid control compatibility levels, which indicated statistically significant differences (p<0.05). Conclusion: Education based on RAM given to individuals who received HD treatment was found to increase fluid control compatibility but have no effects on level of acceptance of illness. In line with this result, it is recommended to provide individuals who receive HD treatment with education programs based on RAM to be conducted in regular intervals in order to increase their fluid control compatibility. Key Words: Acceptance of illness, hemodialysis, roy adaptation model, fluid control
