Psychosocial effects of hemodialysis therapy on family members of kidney patients and medical social work relationship

In the rehabilitation process of health problems, the social and psychological of the patient olay an important role. Social work helps people cope with their Daily life problems, madiates their relationships with their social environment and addresses personal and family problems in order to resolve them. This research was carries out to reveal the psycho-social effects of family members who have patients who are treated chronic kidney failure. Interview-based interviec technique was applies with the qualitative research model in the research. Interviews were made with 10 patients ans relatives who were treated in the hemodialysis unit at Özalp District States Hospital in Van. The dataof the research were accessed with a semi-structured interview form consisting of 10 questions and 27 sub-questions developedby the researcher. The data collection process was carried out between December 2018 and February 2019. The collected data were read by the researcher and main themes and sub-themes were determined. The themes identified consist of topics such as socio-demographic characteristics of the interviewed people, thoughts abous the disease, disease affects, thoughts abous kidney transplantation, satisfatction with the treatment seen. In the interviews, it was seen that hemodialysis treatment caused deterioration in the physical and psychological health status of the relatives of the patients, and family memebers with hemodialysis patients had difficulties in coping with disease and treatment.
