Does psychological empowerment affect work engagement in nurses?

Although the health sector is indispensable for human life, the presenter of this sector is the human being herself. Nurses are among the elements that make up the labour force of the health sector. Nurses perform a key function for society and health institutions. Psychological empowerment of nurses is important for their work engagement processes in health services. Based on this information; the aim of the study is to determine the effect of psychological empowerment on work engagement in nurses, to reveal the differences according to socio-demographic characteristics, and to examine the relationship between psychological empowerment and work engagement. The sample of this quantitative and cross-sectional study consists of 315 nurses working in a public hospital. "Personal Information Form", "Psychological Empowerment Scale" and "Work Engagement Scale" were prepared by face-to-face survey method as data collection tools for the sponsors of these associations. In analytical evaluations, difference analysis (t-test), analysis of variance (ANOVA), distribution analysis and regression analysis were performed. According to the results of the analysis of the research, it was determined that the variables of age, gender, marital status, managerial position, working time in professional life, working time in the institution, income level and the unit of work did not show a statistically significant difference according to the level of psychological empowerment and work engagement (p>0.05). The education level variable showed a statistically significant difference according to the level of work engagement (p<0.05). As a result of the correlation analysis, it was found that there was a positive medium level relationship between psychological empowerment and work engagement. As a result of regression analysis, it was found that psychological empowerment had a significant effect on work engagement.
