The effect of NLP practices in gaining organizational citizenship behavior to nurses

Aim: This research was carried out to determine the effect of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) practices in raising the awareness of "Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB)". Material and Method: The research was conducted in a randomized controlled and experimental design. The sample of the study consisted of 180 nurses assigned to NLP Education (60), Standard Education (60) and control (60) groups. Data were collected between January-April 2020. Socio-Demographic Features Information Form and Organizational Citizenship Level Scale were applied. Descriptive statistics, Chi Square, Tukey HSD and ANOVA tests were used to evaluate the data. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the total score of the OCB in the NLP education group compared to the standard education group and the control group (p<0.05). Information and participation, tolerance and conscientiousness sub-dimensions of the OCB (p<0.05). NLP education group in the posttest compared with the standard education group and the control group OCB sub-dimension mean scores significant differences were detected between. Although there was no significant difference in praising the institution and helping sub-dimensions (p> 0.05), the highest score increase was observed in the NLP education group. Conclusion: It has been determined that use of NLP applications can be an effective method in gaining OCB to nurses. It is recommended to use NLP applications to achieve the desired goals, especially in informing and participation, tolerance and conscientiousness behaviors in gaining OCB to nurses.
